Additional police superintendent Md Abdullah Al Mamun told BSS the four suspects were arrested while investigations were underway to ascertain the murder motive.

But he confirmed that Mia was killed during a clash between two rival groups on Monday at Char Ishwardia area within the purview of Mymensingh City Corporation.

Witnesses earlier said the clash erupted on Monday afternoon following an altercation between the two groups when Mia was stabbed as he was trying to protect his brother.

He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police identified the suspects in custody as  Mahmudul Islam Mahin (20) who is the son of Jamaat’s working committee member Mofidul Islam more known as Mofidul Master, Tofazzal Hossain (40), Humayun Kabir Akash (23 and Monirul Islam (24).

They are residents of the neighbourhood.

The victim’s elder brother M Mofazzal Hossain earlier filed a murder case with Kotwali Model Thana naming 10 individuals and another 10 to 12 unidentified suspects.
