One killed, eight injured in bus-easy bike collision in Kalapara

PATUAKHALI, June 7, 2026 (BSS) - One person was killed and at least eight others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and an easy bike in Kalapara upazila of the district on Saturday.

The accident took place around 8:30 pm at the northern end of Kalapara Bridge on the Patuakhali-Kuakata highway.

The deceased was identified as Harun Gazi, 45, son of Sattar Gazi of Najibpur village under Mohipur upazila.

According to police and local sources, an easy bike carrying nine passengers was travelling towards Kalapara from the Pakhimara area. 

As the vehicle reached the bridge, it collided head-on with a Sakura Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction.

The collision left all passengers of the easy bike injured.

Local residents rushed to the scene and rescued the victims, taking them to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex. 

Later, eight critically injured passengers were referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment.

Harun Gazi, who sustained severe injuries in the accident, was later taken to a private healthcare facility in Barishal, where he succumbed to his injuries around 11 pm, hospital sources said.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalapara Police Station Nazrul Islam said police had seized the bus involved in the crash.

Legal proceedings in this incident are underway, he added.
