Two vendors jailed, fined for selling rotten beef in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, June 8, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court sentenced two vendors to seven days' imprisonment and fined them Tk 20,000 for selling rotten beef in Rampal upazila of the district.

The convicted vendors are Harunar Rashid, 45, of Gobindpur village in Rampal upazila and Yamin Hawladar, 30, of Khanpur village in Bagerhat.

Following allegations that the two were selling rotten beef, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Abhijit Chakraborty conducted a mobile court drive in the Failahat area on Sunday afternoon. Veterinary Surgeon Dr Abhijit Kumar was present during the drive.

Abhijit Chakraborty said the vendors were sentenced and fined under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.

Later, the rotten meat was buried.
