Tree plantation programme launched in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - Munshiganj municipality has undertaken a programme to plant 2,000 trees over the next six months as part of the government's nationwide initiative to plant 250 million trees during the 2026-2030 period.

The programme was inaugurated today by the Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-3, Md. Kamruzzaman Ratan, through the planting of 25 saplings at Amirul Haque Municipal Girls' High School.

Among others present at the inauguration ceremony were Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, Munshiganj Municipality Administrator Mousumi Mahbub, Munshiganj Zila Parishad Administrator AKM Eradat, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Musabberul Islam, and Chief Executive Officer of Munshiganj Municipality Md. Touhidul Islam.

Speaking at the programme, Municipality Administrator Mousumi Mahbub said that under the six-month programme, fruit-bearing, forest, and medicinal tree saplings will be planted along roads, at educational institutions, open spaces, and other public areas within the municipality.

She said the initiative aims to maintain environmental balance, address the adverse impacts of climate change, enhance greenery, and create a more livable environment for future generations.
