BARISHAL, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - Financial assistance cheques were distributed among destitute and underprivileged families of the district today.
Member of Parliament for Barishal Sadar constituency Advocate M. Mujibur Rahman Sarwar handed over the cheques worth a total of Taka 10 lakh to around 500 disadvantaged families as the chief guest at an event held at Sadar upazila auditorium.
Speaking at the programme, MP Sarwar said he felt "deeply pleased and proud" to be able to distribute financial assistance to poor and helpless people. He emphasized that working for the welfare of marginalized, disadvantaged, and underprivileged people is both a moral and social responsibility.
He added that although such assistance cannot provide a permanent solution to their problems, it can bring some relief during difficult times. He also highlighted that the government is continuously working to improve the living standards of ordinary people through initiatives in education, healthcare, social security, and poverty alleviation.
"This programme is part of that ongoing effort to ensure public welfare," he said.
The programme was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mosammat Farida Sultana. Nurul Amin, convenor of the Sadar Upazila BNP, also spoke at the event. Local BNP leaders were present on the occasion.
