Awami League leader arrested in Barishal

BARISHAL, June 22, 2026 (BSS) - Police today arrested Advocate Rafiqul Islam Khokon, a member of the Barishal Metropolitan Awami League, former city councillor and former panel mayor.

According to police, Khokon was arrested from his residence in the Nazira Pul area of the city around 10 am.
Confirming the arrest, Kaunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sanjit Chandra Nath said that Khokon is accused in two cases filed with Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station. Acting on those cases, police conducted a raid and arrested him at his home.

Rafiqul Islam Khokon was known as a close associate of Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, former General Secretary of the Barishal Metropolitan Awami League, during the tenure of the Awami League government.

Khokon previously served as Vice President (VP) of Barishal Law College, a councillor of the Barishal City Corporation, a panel mayor and Secretary of the Barishal Bar Association.
