Three held with indian liquor in Sherpur

SHERPUR, June 22, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested three individuals and seized 273 bottles of various brands of Indian liquor from a pickup truck during a special operation in Nalitabari upazila of the district on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, police set up a checkpoint in Nayanikanda Goruhati area near the border and began searching vehicles. During the operation, officers signaled a suspicious yellow pickup truck to stop. The occupants allegedly attempted to flee, but police apprehended them.

Police also recovered 273 bottles of Indian liquor of different brands from their possession.

The arrested were Rubel Mia, 45, son of Sorhab Ali of Dighirpar village Lal Chan, 23, son of Samsul Haque of Ghomra village and Alamgir, 23, son of Abdul Karim of Rangtia village in Jhenaigati upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ashrafulzzaman of Nalitabari Police Station confirmed the matter.
