Over 3.5-lakh Rangpur children to be administered with Vitamin 'A' capsules

RANGPUR, June 22, 2026 (BSS) – The district health administration has completed preparations to administer with Vitamin 'A' Plus capsules to 3,57,500 under-five children in eight upazilas and three municipalities across the district on June 28 next.
 
As many as 39,422 children aged 6-11 months in the district, excluding the Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) area, will be given one blue Vitamin 'A' Plus capsule each, while 318,078 children aged 12-59 months will be given one red capsule each.

The process of appointing supervisors, volunteers and health workers and selection of vaccination centres has been completed to make the National Vitamin 'A' Plus Campaign- 28 June, 2026, a success on the day.
 
Civil Surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana disclosed this at a press conference held at the Civil Surgeon Office Auditorium in the city on Monday afternoon. 
 
As many as 3,664 volunteers, 456 health workers and 228 first-line supervisors will be deputed at 1,832 outreach centres in eight upazilas and three municipalities, except the RpCC area where the RpCC authorities will conduct the campaign. 
 
“Additional mobile teams will work for the children who will be left out of the campaign on June 28 next,” Dr Shaheen Sultana said.
 
If a child has already taken Vitamin 'A' Plus capsules in the last four months, then there is no need to feed that child anymore.
 
Stating that 1,715 disabled children in the district will be fed Vitamin 'A' capsules this year, she added that Vitamin 'A' Plus prevents deficiency-related blindness in children and protects them from various diseases. 
 
“Above all, Vitamin 'A' Plus capsule prevents child death,” she added.
 
Along with feeding Vitamin 'A' Plus capsules to children on the day of the campaign, mothers will be given advice on feeding formula milk after the baby is born.
 
“Besides, mothers will be advised on feeding only breast milk until the baby is six months old, and feeding nutritious and balanced complementary foods along with breast milk after six months,” said Dr Shaheen Sultana.
 
In addition to journalists, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Joynal Abedin, District Family Planning Office Assistant Director Md Sihab Uddin Sheikh and officials and employees of the District Civil Surgeon's Office were present at the event. 
 
The Vitamin 'A' Plus campaign will be conducted from 8 am to 4 pm on June 28 at designated vaccination centres, as well as temporary and mobile centres at markets, bus stands, river ports and railway stations.
