
SIRAJGANJ, June 22, 2026 (BSS) - In a move aimed at improving livelihoods and creating alternative income opportunities for vulnerable communities in the char (riverine) areas, the Department of Livestock Services distributed ducks among 164 underprivileged families in Sadar upazila here on Monday.
Under the initiative, each selected household received 15 improved-breed ducks as part of a broader effort to support income generation, nutrition security, and sustainable rural development.
The distribution ceremony was held in the morning at Sadar Upazila Parishad premises, jointly organized by the Upazila Livestock Office and Veterinary Hospital.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Sirajganj Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Mamun Khan as the chief guest.
The event was chaired by Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Amir Hamza.
Sirajganj Sadar Assistant Commissioner (Land) Afifan Nazmu, Upazila Agriculture Officer S.M. Nasim Hossain, Joint General Secretary of Sirajganj District BNP Mostafa Noman Alal, President of Sirajganj Press Club Md. Harun-or-Rashid Khan Hasan, Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Md. Meraj Hossain Misbah, and Bahuli Union Parishad Chairman Md. Farhad Hossain were present, among others.
Addressing the event, UNO Mamun Khan said such duck distribution programmes play an important role in improving the socio-economic condition of people living in char and disadvantaged areas.
