PATUAKHALI, June 26, 2026 (BSS) - The body of a 60-year-old fisherman was recovered from the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata in Kolapara upazila on Thursday evening, two days after he went missing.

The deceased was identified as Shahbuddin Majhi, son of the late Amir Hossain, from the Chargashia area in Lakshmipur's Raipur upazila. He had been working as a helmsman on a motorized fiber boat owned by Jalal Biswas of Dhulasar.

According to police and local sources, Shahbuddin went out to sea with five companions on June 23. At around 10:00am, a sudden storm and rough waves hit the vessel, knocking him overboard near the Leburban area. While his crewmates attempted an immediate rescue, they were unable to save him.

Local fishermen spotted his body floating in the area on Thursday evening and brought it to shore, where it was later identified.

Mahipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shamim Howlader said the body has been sent to the Patuakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
