RANGPUR, June 29, 2026 (BSS) – At an event today, speakers called for tree planting with a commitment to creating a green environment and eco-friendly green nature to combat the adverse effects of climate change and keep the planet habitable. 

They made the call at the event organised by the Rangpur High School authorities on the school ground as a part of the nationwide Tree Plantation Programme-2026 for secondary educational institutions. 

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman virtually inaugurated the nationwide programme today with the slogan “One Child, One Tree” by planting a sapling in the capital city.  

Former Acting Convener and General Secretary and incumbent Senior Joint Convener of Rangpur Metropolitan BNP and former General Secretary of Carmichael College Student Union Md Shahidul Islam Mizu attended the function as the chief guest. 

Rangpur High School Headmaster Mafiz Uddin Sarker presided over the function. 

Well-known as a politician with a clean image in Rangpur, Md Shahidul Islam Mizu formally inaugurated the programme by planting a tree on the Rangpur High School premises.
 

Addressing the event, the speakers said that humans get oxygen, flowers, fruits, food and various materials from trees to survive.  

There is no alternative to trees to create an eco-friendly green nature and maintain the balance of the environment, they added. 

Chief guest Md Shahidul Islam Mizu said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman earlier inaugurated an epoch-making tree plantation programme under the nationwide initiative to plant 25 crore million trees over the next five years.
 
"He also inaugurated today the nationwide Tree Plantation Program-2026 for secondary educational institutions for inspiring students to plant trees. Tree planting is an important social movement to combat disasters and build a green future," he said. 
 
If young students can be involved in this movement, a tree-planting-friendly mentality will be developed among them. 
 
“As a result, students will be encouraged to plant trees in their backyards, campuses and other places on their own initiative,” he said.
