CHATTOGRAM, June 29, 2025 (BSS)- A two-week 'Regional Training Course on 
Industrial Safety' has commenced as part of the Global Ports Safety Project 
which is funded by the European Union and the Chattogram Port Authority. 
 
A total of 20 officials from France, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh are 
participating in this training. 

Commodore Ahmed Amin Abdullah, member (Harbor and Marine) of the Chattogram 
Port Authority, addressed the inaugural function, which took place at the 
Chattogram Port Training Center today, as the chief guest. 
 
French Ambassador to Bangladesh, Jean-Marc Serre-Charleau, addressed the 
gathering as the special guest and keynote speaker. 

Commodore Ahmed Amin Abdullah emphasized that this training will 
significantly contribute to enhancing the industrial safety systems at 
seaports. The Chattogram Port Authority plans to continue organizing similar 
training sessions in the future, he said. 
 
The French Ambassador noted that this programme, supported by the French 
government, will improve participants' skills in managing industrial risks 
and will aid in ensuring safety within their respective workplaces.

According to the port authority, the training, led by industrial safety 
expert Olivier Salvi, will cover risk management in modern container 
terminals, oil and gas operations, liquid hydrocarbon depots, and chemical 
storage.
 
Participants will acquire the skills to simulate significant accidents, 
including pool fires, toxic gas releases, and explosions, utilizing the 
European Commission's ADAM software alongside Ineris' PRIMARISK platform, 
while also learning methods for establishing safe distances.

Additionally, the training will include visits to local oil terminals and 
depots, allowing participants to gain practical experience in risk 
identification and the development of effective safety plans in real-world 
scenarios. 
 
Moreover, comprehensive training will be offered on the Globally Harmonized 
System (GHS), the United Nations Regulations concerning the Transport of 
Dangerous Goods, and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. 

The port authority has indicated that this training will enhance the 
capabilities of participating officials in managing emergency situations, 
mitigating industrial accidents, and ensuring the safe and continuous 
operations of Chattogram Port. 
 
The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of department heads, sub-
departmental leaders and senior officials from various divisions of the 
Chattogram Port Authority. 

The event received support from Md. Abdul Hannan, head of the Chattogram Port 
Training Center, and was moderated by Sayeed Imam, an instructor at the 
training center.
