Senegal president to call referendum on constitutional reform

DAKAR, June 29, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye 
will call a referendum on a proposed constitutional amendment that would 
strengthen the power of parliament and the prime minister, the justice 
minister said Monday.

"The president has decided to inform the speaker of the National Assembly 
that he has decided... to put the adopted text to a referendum" when the body 
passes it, Moussa Sarr told parliament.
