RAJSHAHI, June 29, 2026 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 recovered 1.04 kg of illicit heroin during a midnight raid in the Godagari Upazila of Rajshahi.

The suspected drug traffickers, however, managed to evade arrest.

On information, an operational team from RAB-5 learned that a group of smugglers had gathered in a remote char area of the Padma River, roughly two kilometers from Pirojpur village in Matikata Union. The suspects had reportedly smuggled the narcotics across the border and assembled there to finalize a sale.

As the elite force moved in, the dealers detected their presence. Exploiting the pitch-black darkness, the suspects abandoned their cargo and fled into nearby jute fields.

A subsequent search of the abandoned sack, conducted in front of local witnesses, revealed six transparent plastic packets containing a total of 1 kg and 40 grams of heroin.

According to RAB-5, the seized contraband has been turned over to the Godagari Model Police Station for legal processing.
