RANGPUR, June 29, 2026 (BSS) - To build a child labor-free society, concerted
efforts of families, society, employers, public and private organizations are
needed so that children do not fall into labour, but rather live in
education, safety and a healthy environment.

The opinion came at a post-rally discussion held at the Deputy Commissioner's
conference room in the city in observance of the World Day Against Child
Labour - 2026 on Monday.

The district administration and Department of Inspection for Factories and
Establishments (DIFE) jointly organized the event to mark the day with the
theme 'Say no to child labour, ensure a decent working environment.'

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin presided over the discussion
moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Ramiz Alam.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md
Shariful Alam, Labor Inspector (General) of the DIFE Md Afzal Hossain, Labor
Inspector (Safety) Biswanath Mohanty, Labor Inspector (General) Md Zulfiquer
Ali also spoke.

The speakers emphasized the need to implement the law to prevent child labor,
as well as increase social awareness, spread education and take joint
initiatives to protect the rights of children.

The Deputy Commissioner said that child labour is a terrible social problem
in Bangladesh where the incidence is relatively high in small and medium-
sized industries.

Child labour is especially prevalent in risky jobs such as factories,
recycling old batteries, and collecting plastic and waste.

Children engaged in these risky jobs are subject to various types of health
risks, hazards and accidents.

Addressing the factory owners to eliminate child labour, he said that if they
employ adult or real workers instead of children, they will get the
opportunity to use their skills and get better production.

"As a result, employment will increase and child labour will be stopped," he
said.

He called on all concerned, including labour organizations, industrial
owners, NGOs and social organizations, to work together to eliminate child
labor.

Government officials, representatives of various industries and journalists
were present at the event.

Earlier, a rally was taken out to mark the day.
