2 arrested with goods worth Tk 42 lakh in Hathazari

CHATTOGRAM, June 29, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram district police confiscated illegal Indian sarees and three-pieces worth Taka 42 lakh during a raid in the Hathazari upazila of the district.

Two individuals were arrested during the operation. A mini truck was also seized during the raid that took place on the Khagrachhari-Chattogram regional highway, in front of the Walton showroom in the upazila municipality, early on Monday (June 29). 

The individuals arrested are Md. Alamgir Hossain (42) and Md. Selim (34). According to police reports, a check post was established in the area based on secret information.  

At approximately 4:30 am, a single cabin pickup truck was halted and searched. After searching the truck 1,238 Indian sarees and 246 Indian three-piece suits were recovered.

The two suspects were taken into custody, and the pickup truck used for transporting the items was confiscated. Police estimate the value of the recovered sarees at Tk 3,535,900 and the three-piece suits at Tk 636,000, bringing the total value of the seized items to Tk 4,171,900.
 
Zahidur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hathazari Model Police Station, stated that a case has been registered under the Special Powers Act and the two accused have been presented to the court.
