CHATTOGRAM, July 1, 2026 (BSS) - The construction of the long-anticipated Agrabad ramp for the Shaheed Wasim Akram flyover is set to commence, marking the end of prolonged administrative hurdles, inter-agency coordination issues, and a series of approvals.

The project is progressing towards execution as the persistent deadlock among the relevant government and autonomous bodies has been addressed through the efforts of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain.

According to a press release from the CDA, while the Shaheed Wasim Akram flyover connecting Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat International Airport is currently operational, residents of the city have not been able to fully benefit from the flyover for an extended period due to the absence of the Agrabad ramp's construction.

Project sources indicated that although the initial plan included the construction of 15 ramps for the flyover, it has been decided to proceed with the construction of 9 ramps, temporarily suspending 6.

Out of these, the construction of 7 ramps is nearing completion. However, the project faced delays for years due to land acquisition and establishment issues involving various government and autonomous entities, including Bangladesh Betar, Jiban Bima Corporation, and Jamuna Oil Company, as well as prolonged correspondence among different departments regarding the Agrabad ramp.

The notification also stated that the Shaheed Wasim Akram Flyover Project is one of three key initiatives that CDA Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain prioritized upon taking office. He aims to complete the remaining work of the project by November and to inaugurate it in December. Immediately after taking office, he visited the project site to assess the complications hindering the construction of the Agrabad ramp and subsequently initiated efforts to resolve the longstanding administrative issues.
