
KHULNA, July 1, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today stressed the importance of regular eye care, saying timely vision tests, especially for transport drivers, are essential for ensuring road safety.
"Eyes are one of the most valuable assets in human life. Those facing difficulties seeing near or distant objects should undergo eye examinations promptly and take necessary treatment," he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest while inaugurating a vision screening and eyeglass distribution programme for KCC drivers at Nagar Bhaban in the city.
The programme was organised by Khulna City Corporation with support from international voluntary organisation Vision Spring.
The KCC administrator thanked Vision Spring for arranging the welfare initiative and said it would benefit city corporation drivers.
He also urged the organisation to extend similar services to other transport workers, particularly e-rickshaw and rickshaw drivers operating in the city.
He inaugurated the eye camp by cutting a ribbon.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan and senior officials of the city corporation, along with representatives of Vision Spring and local councillors, attended the programme.
Earlier in the day, Manju inaugurated the Rotary Club of Khulna Region's Rupsha Team Year Launching Rally 2026-27 at Shaheed Hadis Park by releasing balloons and festoons.
The rally, led by the KCC administrator, passed through the city's main roads before returning to the park.
Members of underprivileged families were also provided with wheelchairs during the programme.
Later, the KCC administrator visited different areas of Wards 20, 23, 25 and 26 to inspect drain desilting, waste removal, mosquito control activities and the city's drainage system.
