BAGERHAT, July 1, 2026 (BSS) - An agriculture incentive programme was launched in Mollahat Upazila of the district today to boost the cultivation and production of Aman paddy, vegetables, coconuts, medicinal plants and fruit trees during the Kharif 2026 season.

Organised by the Upazila Agricultural Extension Department, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Sumona Airin inaugurated the programme as the chief guest at the upazila parishad premises.

The event was chaired by Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Imran Hossain.

Addressing the gathering, Sumona Airin said agriculture remains a key pillar of the country's economy and that the government's incentive programme aims to reduce farmers' production costs, increase yields and strengthen food security.

She urged farmers to adopt modern technologies and scientific farming methods and make effective use of the distributed inputs to maximise production. She also encouraged the cultivation of fruit trees, coconut and medicinal plants, saying they would create additional income opportunities while helping maintain ecological balance.

Under the programme, 3,900 fruit seedlings are being distributed, with each beneficiary farmer and institution receiving five seedlings.

In addition, 700 farmers are receiving vegetable seeds, while another 700 farmers are being provided with Aman paddy seeds along with 10 kg each of DAP and MOP fertiliser.
