
KHULNA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - Leaders of the Khulna city and district units
of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have expressed deep sorrow at the
death of Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, former acting President of Bangladesh,
former Speaker of Parliament, former minister, senior Supreme Court lawyer
and a member of the party's National Standing Committee.
In a joint condolence message issued on Sunday, the leaders described Sircar
as a wise, honest, experienced and dedicated statesman whose contributions to
Bangladesh's politics and democratic institutions would be remembered with
respect.
They said the Language Movement veteran of 1952 discharged his
responsibilities with distinction as acting President and Speaker of the
Jatiya Sangsad and also made significant contributions to nation-building
while serving in various ministerial portfolios.
The BNP leaders said Sircar played an important role in strengthening
parliamentary democracy and democratic institutions and remained steadfast in
upholding the ideals of Bangladeshi nationalism throughout his political
career.
They added that he never deviated from his principles during the party's
difficult times, including the anti-autocracy movement over the past 17
years.
Describing his death as an irreparable loss to the country's political and
legal arenas, they said Bangladesh had lost a prudent statesman and a true
patriot.
The condolence message was signed by BNP National Executive Committee Student
Affairs Secretary and Parliament whip MP Rokibul Islam Bakul, Information
Affairs Secretary and MP Azizul Bari Helal, MP Ali Asgar Lobby, Khulna City
BNP President and KDA Chairman Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona, MP Amir Ejaz
Khan, Khulna District BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu, City BNP General
Secretary and BCB Director Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, and District BNP Member
Secretary and Khulna Zila Parishad Administrator Monirul Hasan Bappi.
They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed heartfelt
sympathy to the bereaved family.
