CHATTOGRAM, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - Coast Guard has seized 400 bottles of foreign liquor that were unlawfully unloaded from a commercial vessel during an operation near Akmal Ali Ghat, which falls under the jurisdiction of the EPZ police station in the city.

The estimated market value of the seized liquor is Tk 1.36 crore. Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, the Media Officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the matter on Sunday afternoon.

He said the Bangladesh Coast Guard plays a crucial role in upholding law and order in coastal and riverine regions, ensuring the security of the nation's seaports, and combating smuggling, as well as human and drug trafficking. In line with these efforts, the Coast Guard Base executed a special operation at 8 am on Sunday in the vicinity of Akmal Ali Ghat, based on confidential information.

During this operation, a search was conducted at a clandestine location used by drug traffickers, resulting in the seizure of 400 bottles of foreign liquor valued at approximately Tk 1.36 crore, which had been illegally unloaded from a commercial ship.

The traffickers, however, managed to escape upon realizing the Coast Guard's presence. Legal proceedings concerning the confiscated liquor are currently in progress.
