Traditional Rath Yatra festival begins in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, July 16, 2026 (BSS)- The traditional Rath Yatra, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, has begun in Rajshahi on the occasion of the Sri Sri Jagannath Dev Rath Yatra Mahotsav. 

This afternoon, two separate Rath Yatras were inaugurated by the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton. 

On the occasion of the Rath Yatra, colorful processions were brought out in the city. The processions circled various roads of the city.
 
At the initiative of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Rajshahi, the Rath Yatra was brought out from in front of the Reshampatti Sri Sri Digambar Jain Thakur Temple house. 

The Rath Yatra was inaugurated by Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton as the chief guest. During the inauguration, he extended heartfelt greetings to all present on the occasion of the Rath Yatra.
 
At that time, ISKCON Rajshahi Principal Rameshwar Gaur Das Brahmachari and other leaders and devotees of ISKCON were present.
 
At Saheb Bazar Zero Point, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton inaugurated the Sri Sri Jagannath Dev Rath Yatra festival organized by Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front, Rajshahi Metropolitan.
 
During the inauguration, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said Bangladesh is a unique example of communal harmony. "We believe that everyone will practice their own religion without hindrance, and everyone will build a non-communal, peaceful and humane society bound by mutual respect, tolerance and harmony."
 
He further said, working for the welfare and development of every citizen of Rajshahi metropolis regardless of religion, caste and community is our commitment. 

With the combined efforts of all, we want to build a clean, modern and livable Rajshahi through harmony, brotherhood and mutual cooperation.
 
At that time, Chairman of Rajshahi Zilla Parishad, Adv. Ershad Ali Isha, former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, President of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front Rajshahi Metropolitan Achintya Kumar Biswas, General Secretary Miltu Kumar Sarkar, Treasurer Ashok Kumar Saha and other leaders, leaders of Metropolitan and Thana BNP and devotees were present.
It is worth mentioning that every year this Rath Yatra begins on the second day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Ashadha. 

Nine days later, the Ulto Rath Yatra (return chariot festival) is held. This year's Ulto Rath Yatra will be held on 24 July.
