DHAKA, May 17, 2025 (BSS)- A total of 38 attacks have been carried out on July Fighters, including activist Shahriar Alam Samya, over the past nine months, with at least 28 of the incidents linked to political motives.

“The attacks have resulted in two fatalities and at least 87 injuried,” according to an investigation by BanglaFact, the Fact-Check and Media Research Team of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).

The latest fatal attack occurred earlier this week when Shahriar Alam Samya, a DU postgraduate student and leader of Sir A.F. Rahman Hall Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants late Tuesday night.

The first recorded fatality in this series of attacks on July Fighters occurred on February 7, when protesters laid a siege program at the residence of former Liberation War Affairs Minister A.K.M. Mozammel Haque.

A youth named Abul Kashem was killed after being injured at that time.

BanglaFact also highlighted that 28 of the 38 reported attacks had identifiable political connections, indicating a troubling trend of politically motivated violence.

BanglaFact continues its efforts to combat misinformation, disinformation, and fake news in Bangladesh by providing verified information to the public.
