Tamim faster than de Villiers to reach 8000 runs in T20s

DHAKA, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh opener and Fortune Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal reached 8000 runs club in T20 cricket during his 34 ball-40 runs knock against Rangpur Riders in a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match today at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

He achieved the milestone, playing less matches than the legendary South African batter AB de Villiers. While de Villiers took 273 innings to reach this club, Tamim needed two matches less than him. West Indies great Chris Gayle was the fastest to achieve the 8000-run milestone as he took 213 innings.

Tamim required only nine runs to reach this club before his match against Rangpur Riders.

Tamim is the fastest Bangladeshi batter and overall 34th to reach this prestigious club. The southpaw so far scored 8031 runs, averaging 32.91 and at a strike rate of 121.17.

Galye remains the highest run-getter in T20s with 14562 while 15 more batters reached 10,000-run club so far.
