July Uprising creates perspective for youths to serve society: Adviser Asif

DHAKA, Feb 11, 2025 (BSS) –Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan today said the July-August Uprising has created a perspective for the youths to serve the country.

“The July uprising has freed the people of the country from the oppression of fascism faced by the people for long. We got this freedom by the cost of sacrifices of youths. We have to remember them,” he said while inaugurating a 3-day long Youth Festival on Dhaka University campus. 

In this connection, the adviser, who is also in-charge of the ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives, said the young people through the July movement created a perspective so that the people could dream for building a new Bangladesh.  

The theme of the festival jointly organised by Youth and Sports ministry and the DU is -‘Esho Desh Bodlaye, Prithibi Bodlaye” (lets change the country, change the world). 

In his speech, the adviser called upon the young generation to come forward with an aim to reconstruct the country as a happy and prosperous one. 

Regarding the festival, he said youth fests have been organizing across the country to keep the strength of youths alive. People from all walks of life are taking part in the festivals spontaneously, he added.  

Convener of the festival, Prof. Mohammad Jashim Uddin delivered welcoming speech while secretary of the Youth and Sports Ministry Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, and Director General of the Department of Youth Development Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman spoke as the special guests with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan in the chair.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said youth is not only a matter of age rather it also includes mental state of an individual. The youth has a universal form and people of all ages should possess the spirit of the youth, he said. 

“The power of youth unites the people. People irrespective of classes and ages participated in the July uprising with the youths which ultimately turned into a successful mass uprising,” he said, adding that this festival may help reducing the gaps and creating unity among the people.

DU has launched the 3- day long “Youth Festival” on Tuesday as the ministry of Youth and Sports declared countrywide Youth Festival program aiming at uniting the power of youth and building the outlook of mutual cooperation.
