Footballer Nixon proves his talent in field

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) -Footballer Nixon Chakma, who came from a remote hilly area of? ?Bilaichhari upazila in Rangamati district, has proved his talent on the field.

In spite of limited facility of the hilly region and financial constraints of the family, he is now a familiar name among football fans in Chattogram.

Inadequate practice opportunity and infrastructural limitations, this young footballer is now proved his talent in various levels of football leagues in Dhaka. Nixon is the youngest of two sons and one daughter of father Mohan Lal Chakma, who earns his living by cultivating ‘jume’.

Nixon had a passion in football since childhood. The promising footballer  had a dream of completing his study, but , he could not continue Bachelor Degree due to family’s poor condition.

Nixon said after witnessing his football skill, he was suggested by some local people to participate in football trial in 2016 at the Rangamati District Football Stadium.  He caught the attention of the officials of the Rangamati District Sports Association there. Later, Nixon was given a chance to play in the Rangamati District Football team.

He said that amidst hardships, he participated in various divisional level competitions for the Chattogram district team in 2017.

Later, he got the opportunity to play in Dhaka for the first time in 2018.

Nixon signed a contract with Jatrabari Krira Chakra in the 2019 football season. He played for Jatrabari in the 1st Division football league in the center back position. He successfully completed the 2021-22 season for NoFeL Sporting Club Dhaka. In the following year, he was picked by Muktijoddha Krira Chakra in the 2022-23 seasons.

Earlier, the young footballer played few days for Quality Sporting Club, one of the teams in the Chattogram Premier Football League. In the 2023-24 seasons, then he joined Arambagh Krira Sangha, one of the traditional football teams in Dhaka in 2023-24 sessions.

Nixon Chakma said: "Despite facing barriers and setbacks since the beginning of my football journey, I have been able to continue football because of hard work and determination. I never give up hope despite facing huge obstacle.”

He said he there are many young footballers like him in remote hilly areas want to come to make their place in top level of footbal.

Nixon said if the government and various sports organizations pay a little attention, many talented footballers would come out from the hilly area as well.”

The young soccer player said his aim is to wear the national team’s jersey and also prove himself as the country's top-level footballer.

He also urged the relevant authorities to pay attention to creating more opportunities for the footballers of Chattogram so that they can play at the national level.
