CARACAS, June 4, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a fervent ally of Moscow, accused Ukraine Tuesday of acting like "Nazis" and "terrorists" with attacks inside Russia.

Russia said Ukraine was behind rail blasts in its western border regions that derailed a passenger train late Saturday, killing seven people and wounding dozens more during the weekend.

Another rail bridge in the neighboring Kursk region was blown up hours later in the early hours of Sunday, derailing a freight train and injuring the driver.

Russia is a key ally of Maduro, who inherited strong ties with Moscow launched 24 years ago by the late socialist icon Hugo Chavez, with cooperation in energy and military affairs.

"Russia is seeking peace, President Vladimir Putin is, and the more the Russian army advances, heir of the Red Army against the Nazis of Ukraine, what does Ukraine do?" Maduro mused.

"Terrorism. They are Nazis. They blow up bridges, they blow up railroads, they attack civilians," he alleged.

Ukraine on Tuesday claimed an attack on a bridge in Crimea that connects the Russian-annexed peninsula with Russia. Ukraine also launched long-range attacks over the weekend against Russian targets with drones it snuck into Russia.

Ukraine reported four people killed and at least 20 wounded in a Russian rocket attack Tuesday in Sumy in the northeast of Ukraine.

"From Venezuela we repudiate the Nazi terrorist attack against the Russian people's right to peace," said Maduro, who traveled to Russia in May to attend events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

He made no mention of the Russian attack on Sumy.
