SANGSAD BHABAN, April 15, 2026 (BSS) – All the member of parliaments (MPs) both from treasury and opposition benches have the equal right to ask question to the Prime Minister and Leader of the House during the question-answer session in parliament.
“Both the treasury and opposition lawmakers have the right to ask question to the PM during the question-answer session in the House and it is their right according to the Rules of Procedure of the parliament,” said the Jatiya Sangsad speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram.
The Speaker said this when Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee took the floor following the PM’s Question-Answer Session in the House and inquired about treasury bench lawmaker’s right to ask question to the PM during his question-answer session fixed on Wednesday in parliament.
The Speaker, however, said although the ministers have a privilege to talk frequently with the PM and that’s why they (ministers) can leave this opportunity to other lawmakers of the parliament.
The practice of questioning the Prime Minister (PM) in the Bangladesh Parliament is modeled on the Westminster system's Prime Minister's Question Time (PMQT), usually scheduled on Wednesdays to enforce ministerial accountability.
The first 30 minutes of the designated session allow MPs to ask questions, though in practice, it is often theatrical, with treasury bench members asking pre-set, non-critical questions.
