Process to form 10th wage board for journalists to begin soon: Info Minister

SANGSAD BHABAN, April 19, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today said in Jatiya Sangsad that the process to form the 10th Wage Board for journalists will begin very soon.

He said this while responding to a scripted question from opposition lawmaker Sheikh Monjurul Haque (Rahad) (Bagerhat-2) in the House.

The minister said that the gazette of the 9th Newspaper Wage Board was published on September 12, 2019. 

Replying to another question from opposition MP Md. Nurul Islam (Chapainawabganj-3), the minister said that the government has undertaken initiatives to ensure the protection, capacity building, support, dignity, and a safe working environment for journalists.

He said these initiatives include establishing a Journalist Protection Support Cell, providing legal and technological referrals in cases of threats, attacks, and digital harassment, special support for women journalists, digital security training, emergency welfare assistance, district-level journalist protection measures and building a coordinated support framework with relevant agencies.
