14 DU students get scholarships

DHAKA, April 19, 2026 (BSS)- Fourteen students from Department of Accounting and Department of Economics of Dhaka University were awarded with scholarships amounting a total of Taka 301,968.

DU vice chancellor Prof. ABM Obaidul Islam handed over the cheques to the students today at a function at Vice chancellor’s office with DU treasurer Prof. M Jahangir Alam in the chair, a DU press release said.

The Scholarships were given from two different trust funds.

Eight regular students of the accounting department received scholarship of Taka 24,000 each from Accounting 1979 Batch Trust Fund. While six students of Economics Department received scholarship of Taka 18,328 each from Prof. Nazma Begum Trust Fund.

“The trust funds are not merely funds for allocating some money to students, but a medium to create a meaningful connection between societies and university,” the vice chancellor said.

 He urged the students to make the connections sustainable for real development in both education and human resource development.

Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof. Dr. Mahmud Osman Imam, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Taiyebur Rahman, Chairman of the Accounting Department Prof. Md. Makshudur Rahman Sarkar, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, Donor Member and Former Treasurer of Dhaka University Prof. Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, Former Chairman of the Economics Department Prof. Dr. Nazma Begum were present, among others, at the scholarship giving ceremony.
