SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today said some 14.34 lakh farmers across the country have received waiver of agricultural loans including interest up to Tk 10,000 each until July 2026 since the incumbent government assumed office.
He disclosed the information in reply to a scripted question from opposition lawmaker Md. Ruhul Amin of Chuadanga-2 constituency at the Jatiya Sangsad.
The finance minister said the government has paid Tk 1,352.74 crore to banks against the loans of the farmers covered by the waiver programme.
He said farmers in all upazilas across the country benefited from the loan waiver programme.
In reply to another question regarding the number of taxpayers in Chuadanga district, the finance minister said the district currently has 72,463 Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) holders.
Of them, 21,567 taxpayers filed their income tax returns for the 2025-26 tax year.
