SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) – Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today said the government plans to formulate a ‘Folk and Crafts Policy’ to protect the cultural heritage associated with traditional handloom, pottery, Jamdani, conch-shell and shell crafts, and other folk cottage industries.

He made the remarks while replying to a written question from opposition lawmaker Mohammad Kamal Hossain of Dhaka-5 constituency in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The minister said the proposed policy would play an effective role in preserving cultural heritage, supporting the livelihoods of artisans, ensuring the intergenerational transfer of traditional knowledge and skills, and developing markets for handicrafts.

He said the policy would also help strengthen efforts to protect and promote the country’s traditional folk and craft heritage.
