KUSHTIA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - A farmer was killed and two others were seriously injured in a lightning strike in Tegharia area under Kanchanpur union of Sadar upazila here this afternoon.

The deceased was Toafazzel Hossain, 55, son of Mannan Pradhan of Swastipur village under Alampur union of Sadar upazila.

According to police and local sources, Toafazzel was returning home from his crop field. When he reached the Tegharia field, lightning suddenly struck him around 2 pm, leaving him dead on the spot.

Two other people were also seriously injured in the lightning strike. Locals rescued them and admitted them to Kushtia Medical College Hospital.

Alampur Police Camp in-charge ASI Faridul Islam confirmed the matter.
