SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said the government is actively considering the ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ initiative to equip teachers with digital devices and enhance their capacity for modern, technology-based teaching.

“The concept of ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ is under the active consideration of the government to provide digital devices to teachers alongside training so that they can conduct modern and technology-based teaching,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while replying to a scripted question from treasury bench member Mohammad Enamul Hoque (Chattogram-12), MP, in the Jatiya Sangsad.

He said the programme has not yet received final approval or funding, and therefore, the government has not fixed any specific date for starting the distribution of tablets.

At the secondary and equivalent levels, the proposed initiative has been incorporated into several proposed projects and schemes, including the ‘Teachers’ Technological Support Scheme’ under the Secondary Education Development Programme, the proposed ‘Technological Support and Smart Learning Environment in Secondary and Higher Secondary Educational Institutions’ project, and the approval-pending ‘NextGen Secondary Education Programme’ along with other projects related to technological capacity building.

Regarding primary schools, the minister said providing tablets to primary-level teachers falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

He said tablet procurement and distribution at the primary level could begin after approval of the proposed Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-5) and confirmation of the required funding.

The minister said the government has already made substantial provisions for teacher training to ensure effective use of digital devices.

Under the LAISE project, 59,170 teachers will receive blended-learning training and 29,585 will receive ICT training, he said.

Under the ‘Establishment of Education at Secondary and Higher Secondary Levels through ICT’ project, 521,112 teachers have received ICT training, he added.

The proposed NextGen programme includes domestic professional development training for 369,643 teachers and education administrators, while 131 people will receive overseas training, according to the minister.

He said the government will complete several preparatory steps before implementing the ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ programme.

“Before implementing the ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ programme, the number of teachers and their requirements will be assessed, technical specifications for the devices will be determined, necessary digital content will be prepared, and internet connectivity, user training, repair and maintenance facilities and secure device management will be ensured,” he said.

The minister said the programme would initially be launched on a pilot basis after approval of the relevant project or scheme, allocation of necessary funds and completion of the government procurement process.

“It will then be expanded in phases,” he said, adding that it is not possible to announce a specific implementation date until these prerequisites are completed.
