DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today granted remand of eight people for different periods in a case filed over the alleged beating to death of a Sub-Inspector (SI)  of police named Altaf Hossain, 58, a member of the Special Branch (SB) , in Amin Bazar, Savar.

Of the accused, Alaudddin, 29, Md. Apon, 26, Md. Jihad, 23, Imran Hossain, 25, Nur Mohammad Rudra , 24, and Md. Golam Rabbani, 22 ,have been placed on five-day remand, while Billal, 34 and Delwar Hossain, 33 have been placed on three- day remand each.

Police produced them before the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court today seeking 10-day remand for each of them. After hearing the plea, Senior Judicial Magistrate of Dhaka Md. Tajul Islam Sohag granted the remand orders. Earlier, on September 7, Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Siddika granted five-day remand to the prime accused Zahurul, 32, in the case.

According to the case statement, at around 7:30 pm on September 5, an argument broke out in front of Abul Kalam Azad s auto garage in Bordebi West Para of Savar over the parking of an auto-rickshaw.  Police officer Md. Altaf Hossain came under attack when he attempted to stop the quarrel.

Seeking to save his life, he took shelter at his son s business establishment, Grand Fashion. At around 8:10 pm, the accused, armed with locally made weapons, attacked the establishment.

The case statement further said that the accused indiscriminately beat Altaf Hossain with rods, pipes, hammers and sticks, leaving him critically injured. When his son Ariful Islam came to rescue him, the attackers also injured him by slashing him with sharp weapons.

The accused also vandalised the business establishment, causing damage worth Tk 5 lakh, and allegedly stole Tk 2.20 lakh from the cash box.

The injured were later rescued and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Altaf Hossain dead. His son was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. In connection with the incident, Altaf Hossain s wife, Sheuly Parvin, filed the murder case with Savar Police Station.
