DHAKA, Aug 5, 2025 (BSS)–The capital's Manik Mia Avenue today turned into a vibrant sea of festoons, lights and patriotic words as thousands from across the country gathered here to commemorate the July Mass Uprising Day, recalling the historic and bloody victory of students and the masses in 2024.
Braving rains, people of all ages started arriving at the venue from early morning, showing unwavering enthusiasm to mark the day that symbolizes the people's triumph over fascism.
The avenue was festooned with colorful balloons, banners and dramatic lighting, creating a festive yet solemn atmosphere.
Organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, managed by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and supported by the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat, the day-long program featured a rich lineup of cultural performances, political tributes and theatrical displays.
The official proceedings began at 12 noon with an inaugural performance by artists of Saimum Shilpigosthi, followed by a series of musical and dramatic acts.
A highlight of the event was the special drone drama, titled 'Do You Miss Me?' which captivated the audience with its innovative storytelling and poignant message.
Around 5:10 PM, the crowd fell silent as Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the Interim Government, took the stage to solemnly read the historic July Declaration, reaffirming the ideals and sacrifices that fueled the 2024 Uprising.
Following the reading, renowned artist Shayan delivered a stirring musical performance that resonated deeply with the crowd.
More than 250 artists, drawn from various bands and cultural groups, participated throughout the day, underscoring the collective spirit that defined both the 2024 Uprising and its today's commemoration.
As the evening progressed, the avenue remained alive with music, memory and hope — a living tribute to the bravery and resilience of a movement that reshaped the nation’s destiny.
The commemorative event was graced by the presence of several high-profile dignitaries including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain.
Apart from advisors from various other ministries, the event was attended by senior secretaries, heads of law enforcement agencies and departments, top government officials, prominent political leaders, members of civil society and student representatives.
