BGMEA board pays tributes to former PM Khaleda Zia

DHAKA, Jan 02, 2026 (BSS) - The Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by President Mahmud Hasan Khan, today paid tributes to former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia by placing wreath at her grave.

The delegation visited the grave located at Zia Udyan in the capital and placed the wreath to honour her memory of the deceased leader, said a press release. 

After placing the floral tribute, the leaders offered special prayers seeking the eternal peace of her departed soul. 

To further show their respect, the BGMEA leadership stood in solemn silence for a period after the prayers.

The delegation included Senior Vice President Inamul Huq Khan, Vice Presidents Vidiya Amrit Khan and Md. Shihab Udduja Chowdhury, and several directors, including Faisal Samad, Dr. Rashid Ahmed Hossainy, and Sakif Ahmed Salam.

Speaking to the media after the visit, Mahmud Hasan Khan described Begum Khaleda Zia as an 'uncompromising leader of democracy'. 

He also highlighted her significant role in the industrial sector, stating that her contribution to the expansion of the country's apparel industry is undeniable. 

He expressed deep condolences to her bereaved family during this period of national mourning.
