10 get life imprisonment in Munshiganj murder case

MUNSHIGANJ, July 15, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced 10 people to life-term imprisonment in a murder case at Gazaria upazila of the district in 2002.

The convicts are Mosharraf Hossain, A. Razzak, Ripon, Shafiq, Habi, Nasir Ullah, Ripon, Akkas Ali, Shah Alam and Shafiqul. 

Additional District and Sessions Judge Second Court Dr. Md. Alamgir pronounced the verdict, said M Arif Hossain, additional public prosecutor of the court.

According to prosecution, on the night of June 7, 2002, the convicts killed Abul Kashem with a sharp weapon at Baushia village under Gazaria upazila of the district and dumped the body in a paddy field next to his house. Later, police recovered the body. 

Shanti Begum, daughter of the deceased, filed a murder case with Gazaria Police Station accusing Judge Mia and Joynal in this connection.

Later, police arrested Judge Mia and Joynal. Based on their statements, the police team arrested other accused in the case. 

After examining 17 witnesses and evidence, the judge found them guilty and handed down the punishment. 

The court acquitted five people as the charges brought against them were not proven. Among the 10 convicts five are absconding.
