Ex-Home Secretary Jahangir remanded afresh in uprising killing cases

DHAKA, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed Md Jahangir Alam, former secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, on an eight-day remand in two separate cases lodged over murders that were committed during the July-August mass uprising.
 
Of the two cases, Jahangir was placed on a five-day remand in Md Russel killing case, while he was remanded for three days in Liton Uddin killing case, both filed with the Jatrabari Police Station.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the orders as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the two cases.
 
Meanwhile, the same court today showed former Awami League lawmaker Qazi Monirul Haque Monu arrested in two separate cases lodged with the city's Jatrabari Police Station.
 
Former secretary Md Jahangir Alam was arrested from the capital's Gulshan area on October 1, 2024, while Qazi Monirul Haque Monu was arrested on April 21, 2025.
