Ex Jubo League leader Samrat indicted in graft case

DHAKA, July 17, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today indicted expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
 
Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-6 framed the charges, rejecting a time petition submitted by the defense. The court also issued an arrest warrant against Samrat for failing to appear before it.
 
The court fixed August 17 for beginning the testimony of prosecution witnesses in the case, court clerk Zahidur Rahman told BSS.
 
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat along with his associate and fellow former Jubo League leader Enamul Haque alias Arman from a village in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla on October 6, 2019.
 
Later on November 12 of the same year, ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Alam filed a case against Samrat for illegally amassing wealth worth around Taka 3 crore beyond his known sources of income.
 
Following an investigation, the ACC submitted a charge sheet against Samrat on November 26, 2020, accusing him of accumulating wealth worth over Taka 222.88 crore illegally.
