One to die in Meherpur murder case

MEHERPUR, July 28, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to death in a murder case in Gangni upazila of the district in 2022.

District and Sessions Judge SM Nasim Reza announced the verdict on Monday afternoon.

The court also fined convict Bachchu Mia, 48, son of Abdul Latif of Sholmari village in Sadar upazila, Taka 50,000, said public prosecutor of the court Saidur Razzak.

According to prosecution, convict Bachchu on September 8, 2022, killed easy bike driver Jamal Uddin, 54, son of Abul Hossain of Ramkrishnapur Dhala village in Gangni upazila and fled away taking his easy bike.

Police of Meherpur Sadar Police Station recovered his body from a litchi garden in Meherpur Municipality.

Alamgir Hossain, younger brother of the deceased, filed a case with Meherpur Sadar Police Station on September 10, 2022, making Bachchu Mia the sole accused.

The judge after examining 15 witnesses and evidence found the convict guilty and handed down the punishment.
