Court sends ex-MP Mukti to jail after remand

DHAKA, Oct 1, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent former MP of Narail-1 constituency BM Kabirul Haque, Narail district vice-president of the banned Awami League and AL’s central executive member Md Mozammel Haque to jail in connection with a case.

They were on a six-day remand in a case filed by Gulshan Thana police under the Anti-Terrorism Act for raising provocative slogans on September 22.

Police produced them before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court today after a six-day remand. 

After hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah rejected the bail prayers of the duo and ordered to send them to jail.

Earlier, on September 24, at around 9 pm, Gulshan Police arrested them from the capital's Niketan area.

The next day, on September 25, they were produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. The court granted them a six-day remand.

According to the case dockets, they along with the leaders and workers of the banned Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)  brought out a procession on the southern bridge of Dr. Fazle Rabbi Park under Gulshan Police Station around 1:30 pm on September 12.

During the procession, they (the protesters) chanted provocative slogans aimed at destabilizing the state and tried to vandalize vehicles on the road, creating fear in the public mind, the police claimed.
