DHAKA, July 29, 2025 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today stayed for two weeks the High Court (HC) order that had suspended the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) of the United Commercial Bank (UCB).

Justice Farah Mahbub of the Appellate Division Chamber Judge Court-2, passed the order after holding a hearing on a petition filed in this connection.

The court also set August 4 for holding a hearing on the matter at the apex court's regular bench.

Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Arshadur Rouf and Saifuzzaman Tuhin stood for the UCB, while Advocate Zainul Abedin and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon moved the petition before the court.

Additional Attorney General Aneek R Haque argued for the Bangladesh Bank.

Earlier, the High Court stayed the AGM of the bank after holding a hearing on two separate petitions filed by six shareholders of the bank. The bank authorities, after that, filed a plea against the order with the Appellate Division.

After the fall of Awami League government on August 5, 2024, an interim Board of Directors was formed at the bank, and the AGM is scheduled to be held on July 31.
