Man gets jail for attempting to rape girl in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS)- A court here today sentenced a man to five-year of imprisonment in a case lodged over the attempted rape of a schoolgirl in 2020.
 
Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1, Muhammad Abdur Rahim pronounced the judgment.

The court also fined the convict Taka 20,000 to pay the victim girl.

The convicted person was identified Md Kholilur Rahman, 25, son of Md Babul Miah at Jhalur Char Modhyapara village in Dewanganj upazila of the district.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, on March 30, 2020 Kholilur Rahman allured a neighboring girl, a student of class 10, into his room and attempt to rape her. But the girl managed to escape from the scene.

Following the incident, the victim's father filed a case with Dewanganj Model Police Station against Kholilur.

After examining eight prosecution witnesses and relevant documents, the judge found him guilty and handed down the verdict.
