DHAKA, Sept 22, 2025(BSS) – A High Court (HC) bench today issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why a new parliament constituency ‘Faridpur-5’ would not be created separating Bhanga upazila from present Faridpur-4 constituency comprising Bhanga, Char Bhadrasan and Sadarpur upazilas of the district.

The bench comprising Justice Md Mujibur Rahman Miah and Justice Biswajit Debnath passed the order after hearing the writ. The bench asked the Election Commission to submit its reply to the court within the next 10 working days.

Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab moved for the petitioners before the court.

Adviser to the BNP chairman and former president of Faridpur District Unit BNP freedom fighter Zahirul Haque Shahjada Miah, central president of Zia Shishu Kishore Sanggathon Md Shah Alam Reza, advocate M Fahad Khan, businessman SM Shahidul Islam Shaheen, member of the convening committee of Char Bhadrasan upazila unit BNP Shahjahan Shikder and 16 others from Sadarpur and Char Bhadrasan upazilas filed the writ on September 15.

Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab, lawyer of the writ petitioners, said the Election Commission (EC) has published the gazette notification after completing the delimitation process for holding the next 13th general election. The EC has reconstituted the Faridpur-4 constituency comprising Char Bhadrasan, Sadarpur and Bhanga upazilas (excepting two unions of the upazila) of the district.

The writ was filed with the High Court challenging the gazette issued by the EC. The petitioners challenged section-7 of the Delimitation Law, 2021 of the Jatiya Sangsad and section 125(Ka) of Bangladesh Constitution.

The lawyer also said that the EC, in 2008, merged two constituencies (Faridpur-4 and Faridpur-5) and created one, Faridpur-4, comprising these three upazilas.
