Two sentenced to life imprisonment in Savar truck driver killing case

DHAKA, May 03, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of truck driver Martuza Ali in the Aminbazar area of  Savar.

The two convicts are Md Abdul Mannan and Md Chan Miah alias Maruf.

Judge Md Abdullah Al Masud of the Dhaka 7th Additional District and Sessions Judge Court pronounced the judgment in the presence of Md Abdul Mannan. The court also fined each of the two convicts Taka 10,000, with an additional six months’ imprisonment in default of payment.

According to the case statement, on July 26, 2005, truck driver Martuza Ali from the Aminbazar area of Savar went out of his home to buy diesel and subsequently went missing. Later, on July 30, his mutilated body was recovered from the Shyamalasi haor.

Following the incident, the deceased’s uncle, Md. Ibrahim, filed a murder case with Savar Police Station. After investigation, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Abdus Sattar, submitted a charge sheet to the court on May 28, 2006. On February 28, 2007, charges were framed against the accused, and the trial began. During the trial, seven witnesses testified before the court.
