
DHAKA, May 5, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 1,437,736 people have received legal assistance at government expense through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (Legal Aid), according to its official website report.
"Among the beneficiaries, 657,334 are women, 704,865 are men, 75,463 are children, and 74 are persons of the third gender," said the report, published on the organization's website presenting detailed information on legal aid services provided from 2009 to March 2026.
During the period, legal assistance was provided in 4,62,643 cases involving financially indigent litigants.
The report also states that under government-funded legal aid services, 30,474 people received assistance through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 11,75,644 through 64 district legal aid offices, and 30,041 through labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
Besides, 2,15,077 people received services through the national toll-free legal aid helpline call centre, The new toll-free number is 16699.
These services are provided under the Legal Aid Services Act to ensure access to justice for financially insolvent and disadvantaged litigants.
The activities of Legal Aid service are conducted under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
