Man gets life imprisonment for raping child in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old child in Khetlal upazila of the district in 2017.

The court also fined convict Abdur Rahim alias Kayla Mondal, 53, Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer another six months more in jail.

Judge Abdur Rahman of the district Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal and Special District and Sessions Judge Court announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon, said public prosecutor (PP) of the court Rinat Ferdousi.

Convict Abdur Rahim, son of late Jasim Uddin alias Jamir Mandal of Jaliapara (Purbapara) village under Khetlal upazila of the district, was present in the court when the verdict was announced.

According to the case report, on August 29, 2017, Abdur Rahim forcibly picked up the child on an easy bike while she was on her way to the madrasa and raped her. Later, when locals came forward, the accused left the child on the road and fled. 

In this incident, the child's father Taijul Islam filed a case with Khetlal Police Station, making Abdur Rahim the sole accused.
