ASI, wife held for torturing domestic worker in Khulna

KHULNA, June 18, 2026 (BSS) – An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and his wife were arrested for their alleged involvement in torturing a domestic worker here.

The arrested are ASI Sanjay Mitra of Sonadanga Police Station and his wife Popy Mitra.

Police said the couple was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon. Following the filing of a case on Thursday morning, they were formally arrested.

According to the case statement, the victim, Milon Chandra Das, daughter of Ukil Chandra Das of Nishchintapur area under Monohardi upazila in Narsingdi district, had been working as a domestic helper at the ASI’s residence for the last five years.

Popy Mitra allegedly assaulted the domestic worker and inflicted burn injuries with a hot frying pan over household chores on Wednesday.

Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga Police Station Md Rafiqul Islam said police rescued the victim and took her to the victim support centre after the matter came to light. The accused couple was subsequently taken into police custody.
