
RANGAMATI, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large quantity of garlic and urea fertilizer while the goods were allegedly being smuggled into India during a drive in the Choto Harina area of Barkal upazila in the district on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, personnel from Choto Harina Battalion-12 BGB conducted a raid at Amtala under the battalion's jurisdiction around 11:00 am and recovered 340 kilograms of garlic and 450 kilograms of urea fertilizer.
According to BGB officials, the seized goods have an estimated market value of Taka 129,000.
Lieutenant Colonel Imrul Kayes Mehedi, Zone Commander of 12 BGB, said the force remains vigilant in preventing cross-border smuggling activities.
He added that regular patrols and operations are continuing to strengthen border security, curb illegal smuggling, maintain law and order, and protect natural and forest resources in border areas.
